Mini-Quiz: Linear Equations

by Ron Kurtus (14 September 2008)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. Is 3x2 + 5 = 0 a linear equation?

Yes, because it equals 0

It depends on the value of x

No, because x2 is not a first order variable

2. Is y = ax + b a two variable linear equation if a = 0?

Yes, because y = ax +b is the form of a two variable linear equation

No, because it becomes y = b, which is a one variable linear equation

It is both a one variable and two variable linear equation

3. Why do you make a table of values for x and y?

It is a convenient way to list the values of y for different values of x

It is an exercise to practice your arithmetic

No one is sure why it is done

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Algebra. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
