Dog is coughing and vomiting

Question

April 11, 2006

My dog threw up about a week ago. A few days later she started having a little cough. Then she started throwing up while coughing. Now she is throwing up while coughing up white spit and coughing really bad(not breathing normal.)
Can you please tell me whats wrong with my dog?

Answer

It sounds like your dog has kennel cough. She could have caught it from some other dogs, even if she wasn't in a kennel. If this keeps up, it would be good to go to a vet to get some antibiotics for your dog. Also, the vet could make sure exactly what the problem is.

I hope she gets better soon.

Golden sometimes just stops

Question

December 22, 2004

Good afternoon.

We have a golden that is about 11 years old (not sure as we adopted him). He recently started what I will call siesures in that when he stops walking around, he stops, but appears to move backwards and forwards while stopped. He remains alert and petting seems to help calm the event. One Vet thinks might be related to his slight arthritis, and another suggested possible brain tumor. He remains alert, active and a great appatite.

Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.

Answer

When I walk our 12 year old Golden, she will sometimes just stop and stand as if frozen in one spot. Some of that could be due to pain from arthritis and some due to the fact she just doesn't want to walk, since she had done on occasion that even before the arthritis. Also, in her old age, she is more stubborn than ever.

It may be a similar behavior with your Golden. Note that it is difficult for dogs to let you know when there is some discomfort. The best thing to do is not to worry but still to keep an eye out for anything else unusual. It could be just something minor realted to getting older.
