Mini-Quiz: Mixtures

by Ron Kurtus (revised 13 January 2006)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. Why does oil float to the top when mixed with water?

The substances don't mix well, and oil is usually less dense than water

The polarity of the oil pushes it to the top

It is water that floats to the top

2. How can you tell that paint materials have been separating?

The colors run when you paint

The paint is dried up and hard after you open the can

There is a thick gunk at the bottom of the paint

3. Why is blood a simple mixture?

It is a mixture of type A, B or O blood

You can separate the parts

Blood is a red liquid and not a mixture

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Chemistry. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.

Be careful what you mix together
