I’m Stephanie Szuslik, the lead Content Editor for OnlineMathDegrees, an online guide for current and future math majors. I helped put together a list featuring great resources for math teachers, and thought you and your readers might find it to be useful. If you like it, I was wondering if you could perhaps add a link to it on your website or share it another way?
Here's the article: http://onlinemathdegrees.org/leading-sites-for-teachers/

Teaching an 8-year old
April 13, 2014
I have volunteered to home school my 8 year old nephew for the last 2 months of school. I am a retired teacher, but I do need a guidance to do the best to for this very bright, but troubled boy. I was called to the Christian applications to start the day. This boy must be challenged.
Bettie - USA
It is wonderful that you are helping home school your nephew. Our lessons are more for middle school through college, so they may be too advanced for an 8-year-old. However, many of the topics may help you in teaching the boy.
There are online schools aimed at younger students. However, many charge fees. Check with your local schools for some suggested online resources.
Best wishes in success with your nephew.
Wants to become an Economics professor
May 17, 2013
I am a young Ghanaian aged 22 years. I had always dreamt of becoming a professor emeritus in Economics. After completion from the Senior High School, I was forced to pursue a diploma in Nursing because of financial difficulties. I have completed the nursing but, because of the divertion, I fell I have deviated from my ambitions. I am prepared to do what it takes to get me back on track but look stranded. I therefore need an advice from you as to how to go about it because, I don't the money to change the course but don't also want the nursing.
Simon Kwesi - Ghana
It is good that you have worthy goals. Sometimes a person must take a round-about route to achieve their dreams.
Nursing is a profession that is in demand, so you should be able to get a job in the field. This will give you the opportunity to save money that will allow you to pursue your Economics degree, even if on a part time basis at first.
While working in nursing, it might be worthwhile to learn about the financial aspects of the medical industry, as well as the economic impact to society. This will help you in your studies, as well as your job.
Of course, you should always do your best in your present job, even if it is not your first choice. But still, don't give up on pursuing your dream. Your achievement will taste that much better when you toward it indirectly.
Best wishes on your success. I know you will gain the position you desire.
How can I become educated?
March 9, 2013
how you can became easly an educated person with the help of this web
anas - Somalia
The School for Champions website gives basic information on a number of subjects. It will give you a start on becoming a champion in your area of interest.
There are many other websites that can give you more information, up to the very difficult subjects.
It is good to learn from websites, but it is also important to read books on the subjects and to take classes in school.
Best wishes on becoming highly educated.
Child is disruptive in class
Topic: Teaching Hyperactive
February 16, 2013
I have a situation with a first grader, she is hyperactive and also hits his classmates and even me if I try to touch her, uses inappropriate language, goes out of the classroom, does not follow any rules; the Psychologist says you have to be patient with it, and use specific strategyes with her, but I think this has gone beyond patience, because the rest of the class are imitating her behavior and the group is out of control, parents begin to complain that they do not want that girl in that group, because the behavior of their children is being affected negatively. Please, what can I do?
Marie - Mexico
Although there are ways that a child psychologist can help to change this girl's behavior, that should be one one-on-one by the psychologist. Also, the parents of this child must work to control her.
You are not a psychologist. Plus, you are responsible for educating the rest of the children in your class. This girl is disrupting the education of the other children.
You should make your school principal aware of the problems this girl is causing. Also, her parents must be put on notice.
It is difficult to deal with hyperactive children, but is sounds like this girl has other issues.
The big thing is that her presence in your classroom should not degrade the education of the other children. The other parents may get upset if they find out how it is affecting their children.
Hopefully, you, your principal or school administer, and the girl's parents can correct the problem.
Best wishes, and let me know how things turn out.
Pragmatism versus existentialism in education
April 22, 2012
Compare the defferent and similarities between method of teaching in progmatism and existentialims of education
Anas - Nigeria
Pragmatic teaching methods focus on hands-on problem solving, experimenting, and projects, often having students work in groups. Curriculum should bring the disciplines together to focus on solving problems in an interdisciplinary way. Rather than passing down organized bodies of knowledge to new learners, Pragmatists believe that learners should apply their knowledge to real situations through experimental inquiry. This prepares students for citizenship, daily living, and future careers.
Related to education, the subject matter of existentialist classrooms should be a matter of personal choice. Teachers view the individual as an entity within a social context in which the learner must confront others' views to clarify his or her own. Character development emphasizes individual responsibility for decisions. Real answers come from within the individual, not from outside authority. Examining life through authentic thinking involves students in genuine learning experiences.

I agree that cell phones in the classroom is a problem
Topic: No Cell Phones
April 4, 2012
I agree that cell phone or electronic use in the classroom is a problem. Frankly I think that it wil be the death of education. I am a teacher and feel that electronics should be banned from school. There is the same example of Columbine that comes up when speaking of banning cell phone use but in reality it is a huge probelm and deterent of education. Cell phone or electronics are like bringing a Television to class or a DVD player with a stack of movies. This does not include any texting issues. Please include me in any petitions.
Teacher - USA
Thanks for your comments. I think that many teachers and educators agree.
Using the various devices is also an issue at home, when the students are supposed to be doing their homework. Unfortunately, many parents don't seem to catch on the harm it is doing to their children's education.

Eastern education versus Western education
December 2, 2011
i want to know about eastern education versus western education
pegah - Iran
Typically, Eastern education concerns that in Asian or Oriental countries. Western philosophy is based on rational thought and hence the emphasis on logic, cause and effect.
Eastern philosophy, on the other hand, is mainly derived from the religious teachings of Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism, and there is more of a one?way transmission of knowledge that is more authoritative.
Middle Eastern countries, such as Iran, usually have a mixture of Islamic philosophies and Western educational philosophies.
Hopefully, this reader feedback has helped provide information about Education issues.
