Is this the same personality profile?
Question
July 19, 2007
HI,
Several years ago we had a teacher inservice that talked about Introducing the Four Champions of Excellence. It included four languages that we all speak, Builder, Relater, Planner, and Adventurer. It was very helpful in helping us understand how to best communicate with each other, as teachers. My question is, is Mr. Alessandra the author of that? If he is could I get permission to utilize his information as I work with various schools regarding a Collaborative Service Delivery Model for their students? The information I give to the various teachers would of course give credit to Mr. Alessandra including his website. Thak you for your assistance and keep up the good work!!

Answer
There are a number of similar classifications of personality types. The most common is the DISC profile, consisting of Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Conscientiousness personalities. You can get more information on DISC from http://www.onlinediscprofile.com/.
Alessandra's version is similar but with a slightly different twist to it. Likewise, your four "languages" for communication are also similar. Alessandra did not author the Builder, Relater, Planner and Adventurer classification.
Another, more complex classification, is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Tests using Myers-Briggs are often used in schools and businesses.
A good book that compares the different profiles is "The Personality Compass" by Diane Turner and Thelma Greco. It is an easy read an inexpensive.
I hope this helps in your efforts.
How do emotions fit in with personality types?

But the emotions? And their overall impact?

Answer
I think the "Platinum Rule" of doing unto others as they would do unto themselves is more valid than the "Golden Rule", but I'm not sure how Alessandra connects the use of behavior styles with the rule.
These behavior styles relate to inner drives of people, how they relate to others, and their attitude toward tasks. Emotions can come into play if someone wants desperately something, if someone contradicts the person, if there is a failure or lose, or other ways.
For example, the emotions of a Director personality is that the person loves power and control over others. He would get angry if someone refuses to respond to his will.
So, the emotions can be driving forces with these different types, as well as the responses they give.
Allesandra not originator of "The Platinum Rule"
Question

Just an FYI: The phrase and the definition of "The Platinum Rule" was in existence and in print years before Tony Allesandra decided to use it. It appears before l980 in the published materials of Tracom Corporation.
Tony not only lifted the phrase from them, but he lifted the entire system of social style with the four quadrants. It's the height of moxie (and more) for him to have trademarked the phrase.

Answer
Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, in business the first person to trademark a phrase owns that phrase, even it he was not the originator. Basketball star Magic Johnson created the phrase "Three-peat" to indicate three straight championships, but then his coach Pat Riley trademarked the phrase and made money on using it afterwards.
Allesandra notified us that his expression was trademarked and required us to give him credit to have it posted on the web.
