Making a working model of a coal mine

Topic: General

Question

September 28, 2012

Sir,
I want to make a working model on coal mines. Please guide me of suggest any other interesting working model.

Anubhav - India

22964

Answer

You can make a model of a coal mine by showing its insides with a frame that has glass or plexiglass to show the tunnels and such. You can use regular dirt, but you must have black material or even coal to show where the workers would be digging.

It would be very difficult to make a working model, since you would need model trains and digging machines inside your model. It is better to show what the inside of a coal mine looks like and then show pictures of what the workers do to get out the coal.

Best wishes in your project.

Project idea with plants

Topic: Biology

Question

September 5, 2012

I had a science fair idea:

See what difference leaves make for a plant.

I entered it into my science fair at school and won third place. Here's what I did:

Collected two of at least three different kinds of plants from the store (two daisy plants, two geranium plants, etc.)
For each pair, one had its leaves cut off. The other kept its leaves.
Each plant was given same amount of water, sunlight, etc.
Each plant was observed (growth was measured, color was checked, number of blooms was counted) every day.
After a certain amount of time, (at least a week) all data was gathered up and a conclusion was made.

I hope I wasn't too detailed or anything. Hope you like it!

That sound like a great idea for a science project. It is also good that you keep conditions the same.

Best wishes for success in your project.

Making a self-sustaining power source

Topic: General

Question

July 15, 2012

Thank you sir for all of this helpful information, I asked for this information because I am attempting to build a Self Sastaining Power Source and the last thing I needed was the materials so again I thank you sir and if u would like I was hopping to start a team to start the building and testing of my model. So if ur interested just give me an email.

Holton - USA

22783

Answer

A self-sustaining power source would require energy from some natural source, such as wind, Sun, geothermal energy, etc. Otherwise, it is considered a "perpetual motion machine", which will not run forever.

The best route in forming a team to help build and even fund your project is to write up plan that explains what you are doing, materials needed, and such. If you want to protect your plans, you can omit vital points or register the plans.

You want people in your own community to help, so check with Science Clubs in high schools or among Physics students in your local colleges. Some may want to join your team. Once a working model is made, you might be able to get outside funding.

Best wishes for success with your invention.

Would like a link for scientific instruments

Topic: General

Question

June 11, 2012

We are a Company supplying Scientific Instruments with an educational site. We would like to promote this site for students and I would like to know if I could place a Banner on your home page with a link to our site

I look forward to your reply

Mrs Nicolette Davis
Manager United Kingdom

Nicolette - UK

Answer

You seem to have a wide array of scientific instruments available for industry. Some may be of interest to teachers and students for their experiments.

I will be updating our Scientific Experiments section soon and can add a link to your company website.

Wants to interview on science project

Topic: General

Question

March 18, 2012

Dear Mr. Ron Kurtus:

I am writing to ask permission to interview you by email for my science project. I would like to send you four or five questions concerning your work and my science fair project. I am a fifth grade student testing whether hair color affects the amount of static electricity produced. I understand you are busy and may not have time, but any help is appreciated.

Sincerely,

Macie - USA

22516

Answer

Static electricity and hair color is a good experiment. But the big factor is not so much color but the thickness of the strands of hair and how oily the hair is.

Redheads usually have very thin, dry strands of hair, which should respond well to static charges. People with black, straight hair usually have thicker strands of hair. Also, some may have more oily hair that may not respond well to static electricity.

Feel free to ask questions on your project, and I'll try to answer them.

I want an experiment on electroscope

Topic: Static Electricity

Question

February 19, 2012

i want experiment on electroscope

apurv - India

22432

Answer

An electroscope is used to detect static electricity. You can make or purchase an electroscope to do experiments in detecting and measuring static electricity.

See: Detection of Static Electricity for more information.

See: Simple Electroscope for how to make one.

What is the reason for doing this experiment?

Topic: Static Electricity

Question

November 20, 2011

what is the reason for doing this experiment

chanda - USA

22185

Answer

Most static electricity experiments are simply demonstrations of the effects of the force. You can also try to vary things to see which method works the best. The most difficult thing is to actually measure the forces involved.
