Wants to get an "A" in nine final exams

Topic: General

September 30, 2016

Hello Sir
I will be writing my final exams in 3 months from now on. I have not been hard on studies so wanted to know my chances for acing all nine subjects. The exam will be my final year from high school.
I'm learning English as a second language hope you understand the grammar.

Do not get overconfident about being able get an "A" in all nine subjects. Even if you have been getting good grades in tests and homework in all subjects, you still need to "buckle down" and be well-prepared for the finals.

Look over your previous tests, homework, and note you have taken. You could even do some practice exams with your friends.

Be well-rested for the exams, and be sure that you will do your best.

Best wishes on getting a "A" in each exam. That will be something to celebrate.

Wants to pass the fifth grade

August 6, 2016

HI I just wanted to know how can i pass the fifth grade how do i get A in class please,

serge - USA

The fact that you want to do well in school is the first big step. Set yourself a goal of passing and even getting an A in class. Writing that down so you can look at it is a good idea.

Paying attention in class and when you do your homework is important, especially with all the distractions of smart phones and texting. Set aside a time to do your homework with no distractions.

To get good grades, it is important to Be Good At Taking Tests.

finally, you might ask your teacher for tips on getting better grades in class. Often they can help.

Best wishes on becoming a top student. I know you have what it takes to succeed.

Doing research on student failures

Topic: Reasons Students Get Poor Grades

July 22, 2016

I real learn a lot from you. I am a student doing research principles in VET, I am given a task to identify a problem with my classroom, and the problem is "High failure rate among in computer examination trainees". Will that be a researchable topic?

Paulus - Namibia

Are you trying to find the reasons for high failure rate, possible solutions for the problem, or comparing the failure rate in various groups of students?

It is important to be specific in stating your problem and what you want to achieve in your research.

With this study, you may be able to find some common elements among those who fail.

It sounds like an interesting subject to research. Best wishes for success in your research project.

Wants A's and B's but doesn't do homework

Topic: General

April 16, 2016

I just have a couple questions....ok so everytime I were study the night before a quiz I would still fail in all of my 7 classes I have in my middle school. Then in language arts I have a 58% that's not good at all. My teacher gives out really weird and hard homework so I really don't do it, but I know that's part of it because when your assigned homework your suppose to do and all. But I just wanna know how to get all A's and B's in my classes. If you can help please! Thank you ;)

Matthew - USA

It is good that you want to get A's and B's. That is a start on being successful.

It is a good idea to take notes in class. Often teachers will give hints about what is important and may be on a test. Also, notes make it easier to review the subject matter when studying for a test. Note that note taking becomes more and more important in high school and college. See Taking Notes in Class.

Shame on you for not even trying to do your homework. At the very least, go over the homework material to do what is easy to do. Then for the hard stuff, give it a try or make note of the subject. You can ask your teacher in class to explain the hard stuff. See Zip Through Your Homework for some tips.

I hope these ideas help. Best wishes on becoming a top student.

Stepson struggling in school

Topic: Reasons Students Get Poor Grades

April 14, 2016

I have a 15 year old step son who has failed one grade and sporadically goes through a period of good results. Teachers have been saying he has potential but is never realised. He is not happy with his school but doesn't help himself by getting better marks to warrant him going to a better school.

Kevin - South Africa

15 year-old boys often have a struggle in finding themselves.

You might ask him what he really enjoys doing, what he dreams of getting (i.e. like a car), or what he would like to become. Tell him that you are just curious and do this in a non-judgmental way. Note that boys often don't want to share with their parents, but at least it might get him thinking about it.

Don't give him advice, but encourage him to go after what he wants. This could give him a direction and indirectly get him to do better in school.

If going to a better school is an option, see if you and your step-son can meet with a counselor in the school to learn the requirements. This would make the goal real, and he might buckle down and get better grades, so that he can transfer.

I hope these ideas help. Best wishes in helping him excel.

Wants to improve grades but struggling

Hi, I am a high school student. I have a really hard time taking test. I need some help to get a better grade on the test. Right now I have two C and One D. which I am really upset about it, the most struggle class for me is health and world history. please help me and teach me some tips. My goal is to get in University of Columbia, I know it seems impossible but I really really really want to go. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Sara - USA

It is good that you want to excel, as well as having a goal to get int o the University of Columbia. That is a bog start on being successful.

Think about why you are having trouble in these two classes. Is it because you don't understand the material or just have trouble in your tests?

It is good to take notes in class to help you study later. Also, note that teachers often give hints on what is important and what will be in their tests. In fact, do your homework as if it was a test. This can help you when under the pressure of a test.

Although it is not easy to do, check with your teachers, tell them that you want to do better in class, and ask for some tips on improving your grades. They may point out things you didn't notice.

Check through our Getting Good Grades lessons for things that apply to you.

Best wishes on getting good grade and achieving your dream. I know you can do it.

Why is homework important after math lesson?

Topic: Purpose of Homework

January 20, 2016

state and explain three reason why it is important to be given homework right after mathematics lesson

Kudzai Isau - Zimbabwe

One reason for homework is to verify that you understand the material taught in class. Doing the homework right away helps this process.

Another reason is that doing homework right after the lesson reinforces what you learned in class. If the homework is skipped, you might not remember what was taught.

In mathematics, it is important to practice solving different types of problems and performing various operations. Your homework will give you that practice to help in understanding the principles.

Best wishes for success in your mathematics class, as well as the others.

I don't do so well in math or social studies

Destiny - USA

We do have material on Arithmetic and Algebra that could help you understand the topics. Unfortunately, I don't have any material on Social Studies.

Consider the classes in which you do well. Often, they are classes that you are more interested in. See if you can apply those principles to math and social studies.

Also, you might ask your teacher for tips or ideas of how you can do better in those classes. Often, they can provide some helpful ideas.

I know you have to ability and desire to excel. Best wishes for success in your classes.
