Doing a presentation on cheating

Question

November 5, 2008

I am completely against cheating in exam because you only harm yourself and gain no knowledge at all , but what i am a university student and I'm doing a presentation about this topic and I'd like to have more of the benefits that a cheater can get while cheating and some of the disadvantages. Thanks in return. Looking forward for the reply.

Sally - Lebanon

Answer

The benefits that a student sees in cheating on an exam is that he or she not only can get a better grade without having to study much, but there also is the thrill of breaking the rules.

But those are short-term benefits and instant gratification. If the student is caught cheating, the consequences could be expulsion from school, disgrace to his or her family and perhaps failing the class.

Even if the student is able to get by without getting caught, not gaining the knowledge from studying can be a big loss, especially for a college student. Going to the university can be expensive and there is a goal of a good career after graduation. Not to learn the material is counter-productive. Tests and exams are mainly meant to verify that you understand the assigned material.

I hope this information helps you in your presentation.

Kid cheats off me and I want him to stop

Question

May 22, 2008

I think it will help me in school. And this kid cheets off of me and others
how can i mack him stop.o- and thanks for the help.

senica - USA

Answer

It is a difficult problem when another student cheats and copies your work or your tests. The best thing to do is to simply tell him to stop doing that. Tell him that you don;t like it. You might even warn that you will tell the teacher if he continues.

Although he won't like you saying that, you also have to stand up for your rights. No one likes to do all the work, only to have someone else copy it.

One thing to be concerned about is if he is one of the "bad" students who will try to get revenge on you. Most won't, but you need to know who you are dealing with.

But in general, just telling him to stop and then making is difficult for him to copy from you should work.

Best wishes in doing well in school.

It is best not to cheat. Cheating can become a bad habit. For one thing, you might get caught and get in serious trouble. Another thing is that it only makes learning harder in the future.

Don't encourage my child to cheat

Question

January 30, 2008

Don't encourage my child or I will press charges on you

merlin - USA

15249

Answer

Please read the article before making rash statements. It is meant to show students that cheating does not pay, even though parents sometimes encourage students to cheat.

The material clearly states: "Although you may be pressured by your parents to get good grades, you should NOT cheat on homework or tests."

We emphasize honesty and character in our website. We also have letters from many students thanking us for keeping them from cheating.

Want to know a smart way to cheat

Question

June 10, 2007

hey guys i'm sarah and i've got an issue when i'm on the exam cause when i learn by heart all my subject i got a low marks and when i cheat i got a high marks so i used to cheat in all exams.until a day i got tricked by the teacher he was watching me in all the exam sciense and when i'm done he tooked away my paper cause he knew that i was cheating so pls i wanna smart way and technique 4 cheating thank u.

sarah - USA

Answer

The problem is that you are trying to memorize material, as opposed to understanding it and being able to figure it out. If you gain this skill, you will be able to use logic to figure out the answers. Then you won't have to depend on your memory, where you might forget something and get a bad grade.

In the short run, you can get better grades by cheating. But if you get caught, you can be in serious trouble in school. Another problem with cheating, is that you don't need to learn anything. You can end up having good grades but being stupid. When you go out into the real world and get a job, you may not be able to figure out how to do things, because you used to cheating instead of learning.

Another big problem with cheating in school, is that it shows a lack of character. Would you trust a friend who you knew always cheated? If the person cheated in school, he or she would probably cheat their friends too.

Please don't cheat. In the long run, it is much better to be honest.

My friend cheats off my papers

Question

May 4, 2007

Dear people, I don't cheat on tests or papers. My friend cheats off of my papers. I don't know what to do! I don't want to make her feel bad and tell her not to look at my papers. Please help!

sincerly,
worried about my friend

- USA

13707

Answer

It is good that you don't cheat, but it is troublesome that your friend cheats off your papers. You do not want to get accused of helping her cheat. On the other hand, she is your friend, so what can you do?

You should tell her that it is not worth it to cheat. But also, you need to tell her that you do not want to get involved in any cheating situation. You would rather be trusted by others.

I hope your friend stops cheating and that things will be good for you.

I don't cheat and never will cheat

Question

March 7, 2007

This is a great site to help students learn how to do there best on test and the benefits of not cheating. I am 11 years old and i dont cheat and never will cheat and i keep my answers to myself. Please tell me how to develop good study habbits?

kaitlin - USA

13320

Answer

I'm glad to hear that you are against cheating in school and that you will never cheat. Not only is cheating not worth it, but cheaters never feel good about themselves.

The best way to develop good study habits is to set aside a specific time for studying without any distractions such as television or phone calls. Get your required work done, and then you can do other things that you want to do.

You can look at our other lessons in the "Tricks for Good Grades" section for more tips.

Can't go to the dance if my grades don't improve

Question

January 31, 2007

I'm failing in social studys and my mom says that if i dont bring my grade up then i cant go to the school valentines dance. what should i do?
thanks,

Leah - USA

13024

Answer

You don't have too much time. The best thing is to talk to your teacher and ask for suggestions of how you can get your grade up in the class. The teacher may give some pointer about what is needed to improve your grade. Sometimes a teacher will give an extra-credit assignment to help a student who really wants to improve.

I hope this helps in getting your grade up.

Got caught cheating twice in history class

Question

January 14, 2007

hi, Im Mya in the 10th grade all GT classes at a magnet school. i find your information very helpful and insightful, however it came a bit too late. i have a history class, and my teacher does NOT explain anything. he gave the students a fat history book and he assigns a couple of chapters of text book notes every month or so. the second day of school, he assigned the class our first 2 chapters of notes...then gives up a due date which is usually about 2-3 weeks later. Within this time, he does NOTHING! in class, he goofs off about absolutely nothing. hes a cool guy, but a TERRIBLE teacher. on the due date, the students all turn in a notebook that has all of our notes in them. for every 3 pages of reading, we are accpected to have 1 page or so of written notes. on about the 3rd assignment, i was getting too lazy to do the notes. the day before they were do, i asked a friend of mine to bring her notes to school so that i can copy them. she did that, so i headed down to the school library, and photocopied about 15 pages of her written notes, so that i could take them home and write them in my own words in my notebook...one problem, my last years history techer saw me copy the notes, and he took a copy that i had thrown away in the trash to my teacher. i had to redo the notes for a 50%, which is fair im not complaining. of course since we dont do anything else in that class, my grade suffered tremendously, especially because i dont do too well on the tests either that we take the day we turn in the notes. so just friday, it was time for another test. the tests are 2 parts, an essay, and 60 mutiple choice questions. i had a cheat sheet for the essay with a bunch of information on it, he just so happened to look in my direction and sees the paper. he usually doesnt collect our rough draft/thoughts that we do before the essay, but he did this time so that he would have the proof that i cheated. he gave me 2 oppurtunities to fess up with what i did, but i didnt admit to cheating. i said that i wrote down the notes after he gave us the prompt. it is very hard to admit to cheating, so i repeatedly denied it. he knew however that i had those notes ready from before, so he called my mom and they are going to hold a conference this tuesday. is there anything i could do or say to make my punishment less severe, taking into consideration that he is a TERRIBLE TEACHER. he doesnt explain anything and always expects perfect grades. i am trying to get him fired, so first step, im going to my guidence counselor on tuesday (monday is MLK day) and im making a complaint about him. It isnt fair that he doesnt teach a single piece of information, yet i get caught for cheating. If he was a half decent teacher, i wouldnt have to cheat, i would know the information, and could have a chance in doing well.

thank you for your time and consideration.

Answer

I'm sorry that I didn't get to read your letter in time for your meeting with the teacher. I hope things worked out for you.

It's really tough when you have a teacher that doesn't seem to know what he's doing and does a poor job at teaching the students. It takes a lot of self-discipline to be able to figure out what to do to pass the class, as well as to keep motivated to do the work.

Right now, you've got a bad reputation with this teacher and perhaps your former teacher. No matter what your punishment was, you want to try to rectify things so that you do not fail this class.

You might ask to see the teacher to talk to him. Tell him that you've been having trouble in class and ask if there's something you could do to get your grades up. If nothing else, he may realize that you're really trying and give you a break.

One thing you have to do is to avoid bad-mouthing this teacher to any of your friends. You may want to get him fired, but trying to do so will bring you nothing but problems. Your goal should be to get through this class with a decent grade. Talking about him or trying to get him fired will not result in a new getting a decent grade.

It's really too bad that you're having such problems in this class, and that you made some bad decisions. Keep your mind on your goal of getting a good grade, try to get on the good side of your teacher, and hope for the best.

Also, try not to get this teacher again next year.

I hope these ideas help and that everything will work out for you in this class.

Classmate caught me cheating

Question

October 11, 2006

hey i wanna know if u are doing a test and a classmate catches u cheating and is about to tell on uu
wht do u do
pleae reply
thanks

K. - Canada

12138

Answer

Obviously, you shouldn't be cheating in the first place unless you are willing to pay the consequences of getting caught. The classmate does not to work hard for a good grade only to find out that someone is cheating to get the grade without the work.

You could apologize to the classmate and tell him or her that you won't cheat again. That might help.
