Answer
Gaining knowledge, understanding and skills are the most important to be effective in future jobs and in advancing in your career. In most situations, a student that understands the material will get good grades. Students that have knowledge but have poor work habits may get lower grades. But such students also would not do well in a job.
On the other hand, good grades are required to get into college and are often the judgment on who gets hired. The assumption is that good grades mean the person is knowledgeable.
There are students that are able to get good grades without having much knowledge. Although they may get a good job initially, in the long run the lack of knowledge will hurt them.
