How can I be liked by the teacher?
Question
August 4, 2005
How can I be liked by the teacher without being the teacher's pet and with the other kids liking me?
- USA

Answer
Teachers seem to like students that are really trying over those that are just getting by or don't care. Also, if the teacher gets to know the student, he or she will like the student more. But also, teachers obviously don't like students how make trouble in class or who bad-mouth the teacher outside of class.
One thing you can try is to see the teacher after class some time and ask the teacher for some tips on how you can do better in the class. Perhaps tell of your plans to go to college or get a job or such. This will show your interest and will usually get you on the good side of the teacher.
Also, if you see the teacher in the hall, give a greeting.
Neither of these things will peg you as "teacher's pet" and get others to dislike you.
But note too that in some rare cases there may be a personality conflict with a teacher. If you sense that, the best bet is to keep a low profile in that class.
I hope this helps you get better grades.

Answer
If you have other work or activities to do while going to school, it makes it difficult to find the time to study or to have the energy to concentrate.
Of course, you want to learn the material and get good grades so that you will get a high paying job when you get out of school. So, studying is important. But if time is short, you need to be effecient with how you study.
One thing you can do is to pick other leisure times of the day to quickly finish the easy homework. For the difficult homework, you should try to do that when your mind is most alert. This will make the time required be less.
If you can get in a good routine to study quickly and learn enough to get good grades, things should work out better.
I hope these ideas help. Best wishes in being a champion student.
