Answer

Sometimes rest is required for an injured Achilles tendon or doing stretching exercises carefully. Often a physical therapist will apply cold compresses on the injury, which can help it heal.

It sounds like you performs some exercises that were too strenuous for the injury. If you are in pain, it is something to be concerned about. I question your doctor's judgement by saying you are OK. At the very least you should check with your physical therapist about what you should do.

Problems with the Achilles tendon can take a long time to heal.

Best wishes on your recovery.

Need handles for Vollrath pots and pans

Topic: Cookware Companies

Question

March 6, 2014

I purchased a set of Vollrath pots and pans around 1968 or so. I absolutely still love them, but the handles have charred nd broken off. All that is left is a screw. (Obviously I had the heat up to high). I would love to use them again. Can you direct me as to where I can find replacement handles?

Gail - USA

Answer

It is wonderful that your cookware lasted over 45 years.

You can try contacting Vollrath directly at their website or calling (901) 867-2951 for customer support.

Often local repair shops have generic handles that may work.

Best wishes on getting your replacement handles.

Resources on clean water

Topic: General

Question

February 27, 2014

My name is Lynn Taylor, a member of the Berkey Filters team. In my current role I conduct research and create informative articles relevant to the cleanliness of water. This includes everything from water pollution, water purification, and the overall benefits of life's most valuable commodity, water. When conducting my research I am sure to use credible and and reliable resources to support any and all topics discussed within the article. As a huge advocate for keeping the world's waters as clean as possible, I do my best to help keep as many people informed as I can. After exploring your page http://schoolforchampions.com/health/resources.htm I feel that my article which can be found at http://www.berkeyfilters.com/articles/the-many-methods-of-water-purification/ would be a wonderful addition to your resources. On your page, I was able to find an great deal of relevant and quality information and would like to help add to it. I hope you will add my article to your page as it would help to educate more and more people.

Thank you for doing your part and creating such great page.

Microwavable coffee cups leaking

Topic: Cookware Companies

Question

February 7, 2014

Hi.
I do hope you can help me in this hunt for coffee and/or soup mugs.
I have some "Divided Dish" microwavable bowls and coffee mugs that I
have had for at least 20 years now but the "Coffee Mugs" are now cracking around the bottom and are leaking. I have enjoyed them so much and I still use them hoping I will find some soon to replace them.
My thought is "hoping" you still have them or know someone who carries them.
I believe I bought these at a Wal Mart store here in Oklahoma City.
They are Regal Ware products.

Thank you in advance

Levi - USA

24504

Answer

Some products that are microwave safe will simply wear out from repeated use in a microwave oven. This is probably especially true of a cup that is 20 years old. Newer products resist microwaves much better.

Your best route is to purchase new cups to use in the microwave oven. I am sure you can find some that are inexpensive and work fine.

Best wishes in getting replacements.

Wants to cook healthy in oven

Topic: Waterless Cooking

Question

December 16, 2013

I am interested in cooking with waterless cook ware, and do own some. The problem that i am having is that they say that anything can be cooked on top of the stove, and not in the oven. I ordered a cookbook that was recommended and they say the same thing in the front of the book, but do not tell you how. So, how do you cook a whole turkey,a ham, break, cookies or such things. Really, i am not trying to be rude here, but am frustrated. We have to be very careful with what we eat, but maybe if it was cooked correctly, we would not have to worry so much. Thank you for your time and i hope that you can help.
Thanks again,

Bill - USA

24335

Answer

The principles of waterless (or minimal water) cooking seem to be aimed at stove-top cooking, especially with vegetables where you don't want the nutrients drained off in water. But the same idea can apply to cooking in the oven.

When cooking a turkey or ham, you can use the standard methods, but it is a good idea to use a cooking thermometer that you stick in to make sure the turkey is sufficiently cooked all the way through.

Are far as cookies go, there are many healthy recipes for them where you can avoid high fat materials such as butter. See our section on Nutrition for ideas on healthy cooking and eating.

Son seems hyperactive

Topic: Hyperactive Children

Question

December 9, 2013

I HAVE 4.5 YEARS OLD SON HE IS HYPERACTIVE, SPEAKING DELAY, AND SLOW MIND DEVELOPMENT
PLEASE SEND ME YOUR ADVICE
THANKS

HAKIM - Kuwait

24302

Answer

Some boys at that age are full of energy and seem hyperactive. It is good to allow him activities where he can burn off his energy.

Also note that children develop at different rates and in different ways. The famous scientist Albert Einstein was slow in learning how to speak as a child. He seemed to think in pictures rather than words.

The biggest concern you could have is if he is disruptive when playing with other children. Hyperactive children often need to learn good social skills.

You may have to give your son a little extra attention, but I am sure he will be fine. Best wishes on a healthy child.
