Thank you for sharing your ideas and experience. Just about everybody believes that there is something else after we die. There are many ideas, but no solid proof. Still, we have the feeling that there is an after-life.

Old lady gave pamphlet on Prayer of Jabez

Topic: Prayer of Jabez

Question

July 30, 2009

I AM LIVING IN SOUTH AFRICA IN A TOWN NAMED KNYSNA AT THE COAST. I am unemployed for the past 3 years, married with two kids. Today a old lady gave me a pamphlet. This is the first time I heard about Jabez. Thanks,

John Andre - South Africa

Answer

The prayer of Jabez is a good prayer that seems to have helped many people overcome their hardship.

Finding work requires that you know what you can do well and apply it to help others in business. If it is a skill they need, they may hire you. But you need to use the prayer and be determined in finding work to support your family. Don't look to the old, but look to new ideas.

I pray you will be blessed with work and good fortune.

God loves everyone

Topic: Gays and Heaven

Question

July 7, 2009

ok so i have read that being gay is a sin ,so as been told by others. but today i researched it and found somthing that a very religious person wrote. the main reason for me researching this is because i was wondering do gay people go to heaven and i found god loves every one just not the sins the do. and if u trully repent u will be fogavin .and most gays were born the way they are god and created them . people go around critizing gays when thier comiting sins as well and no sin is more sinful than another .i think people should stop critizing and let god be the judge of where we belong.

- USA

Answer

Thank you for your comments. In most Christian religions, sins are forgiven. But some religions do not believe sins are forgiven.

One question is whether being gay is a sin, if that was the way the person was born.

Christianity is not a religion

Topic: Gays and Heaven

Question

June 29, 2009

Christianity is not a religion. Catholic is a religion etc. Those who confess that Jesus is the son of GOD and he died on the cross for all those who believe in him are saved and will go to heaven. Google "23 minutes in hell" and Google "90 minutes in Heaven" very eye opening!!

Answer

Thanks for your feedback.

Actually, Christianity is a religion, just as Islam and Buddhism. They could also be called religious movements. The Catholic, Baptist and Lutheran religions are different versions of Christianity.

The book "23 minutes in Hell" tells about God sending the author Bill Wiese to spend 23 minutes in Hell and then return to Earth to tell about his experience. Although his story and video are striking, it seems quite improbable that God would pick out this one person to visit Hell. The only other one to do that was Jesus, and I don't think Wiese is in the same category.

The book "90 minutes in Heaven" seems to be about near-death experiences (NDE), where three people almost die and seem to experience heaven. There are quite a few people who have had this NDE experience, so there may be some validity to it. See:

How did Jesus overpower Satan?

Topic: Apostles' Creed

Question

June 15, 2009

Is there a theological consensus as to what transpired during Jesus's descent into hell: his motive(s)and his conscious state? Was Satan impotent in that Christ intervened in hell with or wihout Satan's permission? Was Jesus offering a salvation possibility for those in hell who died before Jesus's mortal life? Was there a teleological purpose?

- USA

Answer

Since the Apostles' Creed was written years after the time of Jesus, there is considerable interpretation of what really happened. The Bible does not say Jesus went to Hell, but instead Hades, which is apparently where souls go to await the resurrection. The purpose was to atone for the sins of mankind.

The power of Satan is another question. Satan was one of the original angels in the beginning of the Earth who then became a fallen angel and went against God. In such a case, Satan certainly would not have the power of God. In fact, Satan may be a convenient agent of God to take care of sinners who must be punished.

So Jesus was crucified and went to Hell or Hades to suffer for suffer some indignity for sinners who believe in Him. In is not certain whether those already in Hell were given a reprieve.

The story of Jesus being crucified, dead and buried, descending into hell and then ascending into Heaven seems to take care of people who have sinned and who believe, but it also brings up many more questions about the issue.

How was Lazarus's resurrection different than Jesus'?

Topic: Life After Death

Question

June 15, 2009

Was Jesus's resurrection different from the "resurrection" of Lazarus? Apparently so, for Lazarus dies another natural death? Why didn't the populace listen to Lazarus after he was "raised from the dead"? Did he have no conscious recollection of the experience? Was he merely thankful and awestruck? Wouldn't he actively participate in motivating others to become more active in their faith?

- USA

17911

Answer

According to the Bible, after Jesus was crucified, he appeared as if resurrected from the dead. But he was something beyond being a live human body, since he was able to walk through walls--as observed by his disciples--and appear as if out of nowhere.

On the other hand, Lazarus was brought back to life, as if nothing had happened to him. But people were aware of the miracle, and it motivated the chief priests and Pharisees to want to put Jesus to death. There were later legends that Lazarus went on to preach the gospel and become a priest in Cyprus.

What if a Muslim has not prayed for years?

Topic: Life After Death

Question

March 30, 2009

WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO A MUSLIM IF SHE OR HE BELIEVES BUT DID NOT PRAY FOR 10 YEARS? BUT AND TO BE A GOOD MUSLIM AND STOP DOING BAD THINGS, BUT DO GOOD THINGS. WILL GOD FOR GIVE THEM FOR THEIR SINS?

fosia - UK

17534

Answer

The Qur'an states that an afterlife in Heaven is for those who do good deeds and who submits themselves peacefully in worshiping and believing in Allah.

It isn't about who you were yesterday. It is about how you live today. A Muslim can repent and lead a good life, in order to reach Eden.

Prayer helps a person to be good, but it does not guarantee the person will be good or will go to Heaven.

Any contradiction to Leviticus in new Testament?

Topic: Gays and Heaven

Question

March 14, 2009

In the New Testament was there ever a part where it contradicted what Leviticus said? Also if a gay person repented before he died then i guess they would go to heaven, but most don't so.

Benjamin - USA

17455

Answer

The view of many Christians is that the New Testament says that if you accept Christ as your Savior, you will be saved—no matter what your sins are. The example was on the cross, Jesus said to the criminal on the cross next to Him, "Today, you will be in Heaven with me."

Of course, the decision on who goes to Heaven does not depend on what people think, but what God thinks. We may think someone is evil, but you don’t know what is in his heart.

On the other hand, there are religions that do not believe that simply accepting Christ as your Savior is sufficient. They believe that you must also follow the 10 Commandments and not sin. Those people would, of course, believe that gays who do not change their ways will not go to Heaven.

Claims Bible says gays will be punished

Topic: Gays and Heaven

Question

March 11, 2009

Leviticus 20 13 (i believe says) that if a man lays with another man as a women does then......(something bad will happen). now why would God say that if they could still go to Heaven. And also there are minor things that the ten commandments may or may not cover.

Benjamin - USA

17428

Answer

Leviticus is in the Old Testament part of the Bible. There are also passages in the Old Testament that condemn a man to death if he steals.

Most Christians believe that Jesus saved people from their sins, as stated in the New Testament. If a sinner repents, he will be forgiven.

Of course, people that do not accept Christ would probably believe that gay people cannot go to Heaven.

Jesus preached against sexual immorality

Topic: Gays and Heaven

Question

January 12, 2009

To whom it may concern:
In Christ's teachings, Jesus preached that no sexual immorality will inherit the kingdom of God. This means no heterosexual fornication, homosexual fornication, masterbation, or any means of such. One must remember that Christ died to abolish the Law in which we were condemed in. Without this law, however, we wouldn't know what sin was. Believe in him (without doubt) and he will turn your life around day by day. Believeing in Jesus Christ you become one in him as he was in the father as the gosple states and he will change you "you got to submitt yourself" so that you can be pleasant in the eyes of God. If you believe in this stuff then you'll also agree that God is in control of every life, every creature. God will come to you when you are ready, through Jesus Christ, and guide you. Just because you have faith doesn't mean heaven is yours. I think "Christains" need to read the Bible more carefully. (I am a man, don't listen to me or any man! Read the bible for it is the manual to truth and the "truth will set you free."

Michael - USA

17091

Answer

I have never seen a scripture mentioning that Jesus said someone with sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God. Instead, Jesus told sinners and those who participated in sexual immorality to change their ways. (John 4:13-26, John 8:3-11, Luke 7:36-50 and other scriptures.)

Most Christian religions believe He was sent to save people from their sins and not to condemn people. (John 3:17) "For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."
