Unity doesn't mention forgiveness of sins

Topic: Unity Principles

Question

January 11, 2009

To say that Unity doesn't mention forgiveness of sins is misleading ... forgiveness of self and others is a large part of Unity ...

- USA

17086

Answer

Unity does not delve into the issue of sin such as traditional Christian religions do. In fact, I'm not sure if the word "sin" is even mentioned in the Unity teachings.

It is true that Unity teaches forgiving others, as well as removing your personal guilt. This is part of having a positive personal outlook on life.

You must do good deeds to go to Heaven

Topic: Life After Death

Question

November 16, 2008

Yes in the Gosble of John at the very begining it talks about the spirt. According to my reading your spirt only goes to heaven if you have done good deeds, fasting, fallow 10 commandment, and free of sexual immorallty. Sorry for spelling I am bad at that.
Thanks

Answer

Many Christian religions believe that a person's sins are forgiven if he or she accepts Christ as the Savior. But there are religions that believe you will go to Heaven only if you do good deed and follow the Ten Commandments, as you mentioned.

Why is Jihad omitted from list?

Topic: 5 Pillars of Islam

Question

June 13, 2008

factual committment is a concern for me on this lesson due to the blatant omission of Jihad - it was just passed over. Please explain why this very important and integral to the the muslim faith item was skipped over. Additionally, the issue of ammmased wealth for self-pleasure was passed over. I find it odd that a culture has such strong beliefs but their actions contradict their faith statements. please explain

Joe - USA

Answer

Jihad or Holy War is not blatantly omitted. It is not part of the 5 Pillars of Islam.

Some consider Jihad an addition or 6th Pillar, while others include it in what they call the 5 Social Teachings that includes such items as getting revenge and allowing four wives, besides Holy War.

Jihad is important to some Muslim sects. But there are many more Muslins who do not adhere to those items. There are also some leaders who use those concepts to satisfy their own quest for power.

Which Christian religions don't believe in Hell?

Topic: Life After Death

Question

October 21, 2007

I wondered after reading this line from your webpage, "Most Christian religions believe in Hell, although there are some that dispute the concept", which Christian religions don't believe in hell?

Kathryn - USA

14602

Answer

Christian Scientists believe you suffer hell on earth in illness, and they don't believe in the soul going to Hell. Unity and Science of Mind churches follow the beliefs of Jesus but do not accept the concept of sin and the punishment of the soul.

These churches are really not mainstream Christian churches.

Shouldn't gays simply change their ways?

Topic: Gays and Heaven

Question

October 6, 2007

As a christian, I am so often frustrated with this topic. I believe that we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ, and that it is through him and the power of the holy spirit that we have the ability to have victory over sin in this life. I might say that I have a genetic predisposition to being an alcoholic (which I do, and which I once was) but I do not say that because that is how I am, that is the life I am compelled to live. Through Jesus Christ I have had victory over that sin and powerlessness and now am a successful wife and mother of 6. Just because God made me that way, which He did, does not mean He intended for me to stay that way, which He didn't. One might make the same argument for homosexuality. Just because God made you that way, which He may well have, does not mean that He intends for you to continue living that way. Does that make sense?

Jane - USA

14491

Answer

The only Commandment on sexual activity is "Thou shalt not commit adultery." This is often interpreted that you should lead a chaste and decent life. A person who performs homosexual acts is breaking that Commandment.

Most Christian religions believe that Jesus Christ saved us from our sins and that every person sins, whether it is harming others, not telling the truth or having sex outside of marriage. Those that claim they are without sin are hypocrites.

Note that being an alcoholic is not considered a sin in the Bible. In fact, in the Biblical story of Noah and the ark, he got so drunk on the ark that he passed out on the deck, naked. Excess drinking can lead to sinful acts, as well as destroying your body and mind.

For those that believe that they are saved by belief in Christ, being gay should not be an issue. But each person should still try to lead a pure life.

For those that believe that you are judged by your acts alone, people that do sinful things are not thought to go to Heaven.

A scam to steal money from churches

Topic: Prayer of Jabez

Question

June 13, 2007

Dearest In Christ,

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I am Mrs Charity Micheal from Kuwait. I am married to Mr.Smith Micheal who worked with Kuwait embassy in Ivory Coast for nine years before he died in the year 2006.We were married for eleven years without a child. He died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his death we were both born again Christian.

Since his death I decided not to remarry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is against. When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of US$4.7million dollars in a Bank here in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire.Presently, this money is still in bank. Recently, my Doctor told me that I would not last for the next Eight months due to cancer problem.

The one that disturbs me most is my stroke sickness. Having known my condition I decided to donate this fund to a charity organization that will utilize this money the way I am going to instruct herein. I want an organization that will use this fund for orphanages, school and church ,widows, propagating the word of God and to endeavor that the house of God is maintained.

The Bible made us to understand that "Blessed is the hand that giveth".I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband relatives are not Christians and I don't want my husband's efforts to be used by unbelievers. I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly way.

This is why I am taking this decision. I am not afraid of death hence I know where I am going. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord.Exodus 14 VS 14 says that "the lord will fight for my case and I shall hold my peace". I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my health hence the presence of my husband's relatives around me always.

I don't want them to know about this development. With God all things are possible. As soon as I receive your reply I shall give you the contact of the Bank here in Abidjan Cote d'Ivoire. I will also issue you an authority letter that will prove you the present beneficiary of this fund. I want you and the church to always pray for me because the lord is my shephard.

My happiness is that I lived a life of a worthy Christian. Whoever that Wants to serve the Lord must serve him in spirit and Truth. Please always be prayerful all through your life. Contact me on this email address. Any delay in your reply will give me room in sourcing another church for this same purpose. Please assure me that you will act accordingly as I Stated herein. Hoping to receive your reply.

Remain blessed in the Lord.
Yours in Christ,
Mrs Charity Micheal.

Answer

Unfortunately, there are many unscrupulous people who disgrace themselves and their countries by sending similar letters out, stating they have millions of dollars and are willing to share with helpful people. Most seem to come from African countries. It is a shame that their character is so low that they would stoop to such actions and try to take advantage of people.

Of course, I know that you are not such a dishonest person that would try to fool others and even make a mockery of religion to steal money from them. I am sure you are truly trying to do good. But of course, if you are not an honest person, then you will start to receive bad luck in your life.

Believes the soul comes after conception

Topic: Soul or Body

Question

May 18, 2007

The soul must come into the body some time after conception, in the case of twins the one egg and sperm form, then later split into two, both twins have different souls, therefor soul at conception is wrong but some time later is true.
We must have a soul because if i would make a clone of you, the body might be the same, including the brain and dna, but you would not be looking out of the eyes of your clone, or twin.

thanks for reading

- Australia

Answer

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

The situation with twins presents a good argument against the body receiving a soul at conception. The Catholic religion is one that believes in the soul being established at conception. I am not sure what their explanation is for the case of twins or multiple births.

What are the other creeds of religion?

Topic: Apostles' Creed

Question

March 18, 2007

What are the other creeds of religion, and where might I find information on the other creeds?

Charles - USA

13392

Answer

A creed is a statement of what followers believe in. At the bottom of the page on the following site is a listing of links to other creeds.

But also, the beliefs of various religions have other names the "creed". For example, the "5 Pillars of Islam" at:
http://www.school-for-champions.com/religion/islam_5pillars.htm gives the basis of that religion. This is similar to a creed for the religion.
