## What are the the laws of magnetism?

Topic: Basics of Magnetism

### Question

March 17, 2015

can u write the laws of magnetism for me please

- Nigeria

25836

The most basic law of magnetism is that like poles repel one another and unlike poles attract each other. Also the force of attraction or repulsion varies as the inverse of the square of the separation. In other words, the closer the poles are, the greater the force.

The force is also inversely proportion to the absolute permeability of the medium.

There are also complex equations for Gauss' law of magnetism.

### Question

Spinning electrons

Electrons have a property called spin. This spinning creates a magnetic field with N and S poles, just as the spinning Earth has magnetic poles. Note that the N pole on an electron is really a North-seeking pole, just as in a magnet.

If electrons in the shells of an atom spin in the same direction, the atom will exhibit a magnetic field and will respond to the forces of a magnet. If half of the electrons spin one way and the rest spin the other way, they will neutralize each other and the material will not be affected by a magnetic field

This atom is barely magnetic because all its electrons are not aligned

This atom is barely magnetic because all its electrons are not aligned

Thanks fully for this, I discovered how to use magnets for generating power without any mechanical moving.

## Affect of gadolinium and nickel in the body

Topic: Magnets

### Question

March 4, 2015

Gadolinium is chelated and injected into the human body for use in an MRI! If the person had a high level of nickel in their body could the nickel and gadolinium magnetize together?

- USA

25808

The amount of nickel in a human is on the order of micrograms (millionths of a gram), so it is very small. It is unlikely that having gadolinium injected for an MRI would be affected by any nickel in the body.

## What is electricity?

Topic: Basics of Magnetism

### Question

February 10, 2015

1.what is electricity?
2. what is electrical insulator?
3. what is transformer?
4 difference between insulator and conductor.

Emmanuel Mensah - Ghana

25759

Electricity is the flow of electrical charges. An insulator is a material that does not allow electricity to flow through it, which a conductor does allow the flow of electrons.

## How are magnetic materials classified?

Topic: Magnetic Materials

### Question

January 24, 2015

how we classfied this classification deppend on what

abdurehman - Ethiopia

25720

Magnetic materials are classified according to how well they are attracted to a magnet. Some are strongly attracted. some are only weakly attracted or not attracted at all, and some materials are actually repelled by a magnetic force.

## How are electromagnetic forces related to light?

Topic: Electromagnetism

### Question

January 18, 2015

how the electromagnetic forces are related to light? what its really mean by light is electronagnetic radiation?

25708

When an electromagnetic field oscillates rapidly, the field moves outward as waves. The frequency of the oscillations determines what sort of electromagnetic waves or radiation is formed. At high frequencies, the radiation is visible light. At lower frequencies, it can be radio waves, and at higher frequencies, it can be x-rays.

## Make a u-shaped magnet electrically

Topic: Magnets

### Question

January 7, 2015

how to magnetise u-shaped magnet electrically

Ainebyona - Uganda

25692

You can magnetize a piece of iron of any shape by wrapping it with insulated wire and running DC electricity through the wire, making an electromagnet.
The metal can be u-shaped or straight.

## Cutting a magnet in two

Topic: Basics of Magnetism

### Question

January 7, 2015

when a bar magnet is divide into two parts, the pole is immediately change at broken point by opposite pole(ie,NS-NS).Why ?

ruhini - India

25690

The molecules in a bar magnet are lined up in a N-S direction, also called domains. Each acts as a tiny magnet. Cutting the bar magnet in two parts does not change the direction of the molecules.

See the picture in Magnets.

## Define bound current

Topic: Basics of Magnetism

### Question

December 19, 2014

how can we define bound current???

tanzeela - Pakistan

25655

Magnetization makes a contribution to the electrical current density, known as the magnetization current or bound volume current. But there is also a related surface bound current involved. It gets pretty complex and involves Maxwell's Equations.

## Why do magnets attract some materials?

Topic: Basics of Magnetism

### Question

December 19, 2014

why magnet attract some material? & why it repel some materials?

tanzeela - Pakistan

25654

The atoms and their electrons in materials such as Iron and Nickel align themselves to cause the magnetic attraction. Other materials, are not aligned, so they are not attracted.

See Factors Determining Magnetic Properties for for information.

In the case of repulsion, just the opposite occurs. See Classifications of Magnetic Materials for information.
