Mini-Quiz: Are Atoms Tiny Solar Systems?

by Ron Kurtus (revised 31 May 2009)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. If an atom were a solar system, why wouldn't each nucleus glow like a sun?

Nuclei already do glow in the dark

Perhaps they give off a different type of radiation

The whole idea is impossible

2. If our solar system was an atom, how would electricity be represented?

Electricity only goes through wires

Perhaps an electron doesn't really exist

Perhaps a comet is like a moving electron

3. How could you prove these theories?

It is unlikely we will ever know for sure

By doing experiments and taking data

This is all a known fact already

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Physics. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.

Enjoy life by being curious about the world around you
