Mini-Quiz: Heating a Greenhouse

by Ron Kurtus (revised 9 November 2014)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. What is a major purpose of the glass walls and roof in a greenhouse?

It allows workers to enjoy the outside scenery

It allows sunlight in to help the plants grow and keep the building warm

It prevents winter snow from piling up too high and blocking the sunlight

2. Why would they add containers of water or sand in a greenhouse?

Water and sand are good for absorbing and holding heat

They are used in case the plants get too dry or need drainage

The containers are there to be sold to customers

3. What is special about greenhouse glass or plastic material?

It is not toxic to the plants or humans

It has a light green color for decoration

It allows sunlight in but does not allow thermal radiation out

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Physics. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.

Be kind to your environment
