Mini-Quiz: Factors Determining Magnetic Properties

by Ron Kurtus (revised 23 March 2012)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. What element has all or most electrons aligned in the same direction?

Nickel

Krypton

Stainless steel

2. Why isn't rusty iron attracted to magnets very well?

Rust is too heavy

The molecular arrangement diminishes the magnetic response

There is too much water in rust

3. What is a domain in a metal?

A collection of atoms or molecules arranged in a specific orientation

There are no domains in metals

It is the range of the magnetic field

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Physics. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
