Mini-Quiz: Beat Frequencies in Sound

by Ron Kurtus (revised 10 March 2012)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. How could you tell that two tuning forks of the same musical note, were exactly the same?

They are exactly as advertised

Strike them both at the same time to verify there is no beat frequency

Compare each with the correct piano key

2. If you added two sine waves that are exactly the same, what would be the result?

You would have an identical sine wave

You would have an identical sine wave with double the amplitude

You would have an identical sine wave with double the frequency

3. What would the beat frequency be if you added tones of 880 Hz and 882 Hz?

2 Hz

881 Hz

1762 Hz

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Physics. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
