Mini-Quiz: Navigating in a Room when Blind

by Ron Kurtus (19 July 2003)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. How can a cane be used in navigation?

The person can touch things with the cane to get an idea where he or she is

The cane is used to prevent falling down after bumping into something

The cane is only used to warn drivers, when crossing the street

2. How can echoes help in orientation in a room?

Echoes are used in tuning a radio

Echoes are only used to hear the words you have shouted

The sound from a hard flat wall is different than from an area with drapes

3. What types of odors can a blind person use to navigate a room?

If the person sniffs the rug, he might find his way around

A scented candle on one side of the room can help

Spaying the room with air freshener will help the person

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Understanding Senses. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
