About the School for Champions
(revised October 2003)
The School for Champions is an international non-profit educational organization that provides free online lessons, success strategies, and character-building programs. Funding for the school comes from sponsors and donations.
School
As a school, its lessons cover basic academic and practical subjects intended for students, educators and the public. The curriculum follows a whole-person approach and includes character-building principles and methods to succeed in school, your career and life.
For Champions
The School for Champions is a school for people who want to be champions in what they do.
This means to gain the title of champion in an organized competition, to be able to win in other competitions, to give your best effort in a competition against a superior foe.
But often the opponent is not another person. Rather, it is a challenge or obstacle to overcome. When bank robber Willie Sutton escaped from prison, he turned around and shook his fist at the facility and sald, "I got you!" He had beaten the challenge and felt like a champion.
There is a great feeling in seeking your dream, working on your mission, or competing in a game. At that time, you feel like a potential champion.
So, the School for Champions focusses on showing people how to overcome challenges of all sorts. For example, the student has a challenge of getting good grades in school. The School for Champions provides lessons to help him or her in the classwork. It also shows them strategies of how to excel in school. And finally, it shows them how to overcome their challenges to achieve their goals.
It could be called: Winning in the game of life.
NOTE: Let's use the analogy of defeating an opponent in a competition. It is just like health is a competition against parasites and germs.
Competitions
One place to establish champions is in competitions
The champion
A person who wins an organized competition to determine the best in the field is given the title of the champion. Titles are given to the Olympic 100-meter Swimming Champion, City High School Footbal Champion, and YMCA Chess Jr. Champion.
The winner of a science fair, the winner of a spelling-bee contest, or the person with the highest grade-point average in school could each also be considered the champion, although the title isn't officiallly given.
Gave a good fight
But that doesn't mean a person must win a competition to feel like a champion. Giving your best effort against a superior opponent can also be satisfying. In the movie Rocky, the underdog fighter almost beats the World's Champion, thus giving him more recognition than the winner of the boxing match.
State of mind
Being a champion is really a state of mind. Certainly, winning is nice, but doing your utmost to acheive a difficult goal is what it is all about. A person on a mission or in pursuit of a dream has the feeling of being a champion. Then, achieving the goal is confirmation that the person truly is a champion and a special person.
The crux of the School for Champions is to show people who to get into that state of mind.
Champion a cause
One goal or mission is to help others. A person who champions a cause is a champion.
