Why is hexane insoluble in water?
May 23, 2014
water is a polar solvent. why is hexane insoluble in water
Champy - Papua New Guinea (24986)
There is a rule that like substances dissolve in like substances. This means that the closer two materials are to each other chemically, the more likely they are to be soluble in each other.
Water and hexanes don't have anything in common concerning their formulas. They are too different from each other to be soluble.
Electrofile is used in the nitration of benzene
April 3, 2014
which electrofile is used in the nitration of benzene.
Prashant - India (24839)
The electrophile is the "nitronium ion" NO2+.
See The Nitration of Benzene for an explanation.
Hydrogen used with oxygen in welding
April 1, 2014
Why is hydrogen used with oxygen in welding?
Debasis - India (24833)
Although hydrogen easily burns in air and can be explosive. When it is mixed with pure oxygen under controlled conditions, the flame is extremely hot and ideal for melting metal required in welding.
Name of complex compound
March 28, 2014
Please help me with the IUPAC names of these complex compounds (NH4)2SO4.Fe2(SO4)3.24H2O (NH4)2SO4.Al2(SO4)3.24H2O K2SO4.Cr2(SO4)3.24H2O
What property of alum makes it useful as blood clotting agent, in fire extinguishers and in municipal water treatment
Muhammad - Pakistan (24858)
(NH4)2SO4.Fe2(SO4)3.24H2O is Ferric ammonium alum.
Alum in block form (usually potassium alum) can be used as a blood coagulant because it shrinks body tissue.
Alum is also very soluble in water.
I want a book of chemistry
March 5, 2014
I want a book of chemistry or notes in my cellphone
Prosper - Zimbabwe (24578)
I am sorry, but I have no such book available. Feel free to use our basic lessons.
Seeking job as chemistry teacher
March 1, 2014
I HUMBLY APPLY FOR THE POSITION OF A CHEMISTRY TEACHER IN YOUR REPUTABLE SCHOOL.
I PLEDGE TO DISCHARGE MY DUTIES EFFECTIVELY AND TO ABIDE BY THE RULES AND REGULATION GUIDING THE PROFESSION AND THE SCHOOL.
I HAVE MSc IN BIOCHEMISTRY AND A PGDE WITH THREE YEARS TEACHING EXPERIENCE.
THANKS FOR YOUR COOPERATION.
AFEEZ - Nigeria (24566)
The School for Champions is an online educational resource. I am sorry, but we are not hiring chemistry teachers.
You seem to have good qualifications for employment in chemistry. I am sure there are companies or schools in your area seeking people in biochemistry. It is always best to start looking for work near home and then work your way to other locations.
Do some research on companies doing chemical and biochemical work to see what opportunities there are. Also, you might check your college to see if they have any listings for teachers in other schools.
I hope these ideas help. Best wishes in finding a new job and in advancing in your career.
Wants to know everything about chemistry
February 7, 2014
Please, i need a complete note of everything about chemical combination, including the laws, bonding types and examples and any other thing about chemical combination.
Goodness - Nigeria (24502)
I'm sorry, but our material only gives the basics of Chemistry, as a way to get started. You will probably have to refer to textbooks for complete information.
Best wishes in your studies.
Who to cite as author?
February 4, 2014
Is there a specific author that I may use for citing this webpage properly for a lab report. I am a student at The Florida Institute of Technology and the information from your webpage would be very beneficial to providing a proper background for my report. Please get back to me as soon as possible. Thank you.
Cory - USA (24492)
You can cite Ron Kurtus as author of the web page.
Best wishes in your report.
Chemistry basics are weak
February 3, 2014
I m studying in bsc 2nd and after graduation i want to appear for civil services with chemistry as optional but my basic is weak so give me techniques which help me
Khawaja - India (24483)
Our lessons on Chemistry will give you the basics, and that should help you in your school studies. It is also worthwhile to look at Physics to get an understanding of atoms and electrons.
With chemistry, it is good to know the major elements and their symbols. You also should learn the chemical formulas for common molecules, such as water, carbon dioxide, table salt, and sodium hydroxide, to name a few. Keeping a notebook with a list of things to memorize can be very helpful.
Best wishes in your studies and future career.
Are all organic compounds non-polar?
January 5, 2014
Is all organic compound a non-polar
Simon - Nigeria (24406)
Some organic compounds are non-polar and some are polar. For example, carbon tetrachloride is non-polar and formic acid is polar. Both are organic compounds.
Also, alkanes are non-polar, while alcohols are polar.
What does polar molecule mean?
December 23, 2013
can please give the meaning of those exactly.
like polar means what???
am asking like what is what manner.
i wanna know it and remember it in a simple words.
is it so possible??
Dhivya - India (24367)
A polar molecule is one where the atoms are aligned such that one end of the molecule has more positive (+) charges and the other side has more negative (-) charges.
This results in special properties when mixing materials together. Mixing two polar materials together will result in a polar solution.
Use of Nitrogen in oil industry
December 3, 2013
What is Nitrogen use for in the Oil and Gas Industries?
Also, how is it use in drilling Petroleum?
Fineboy - Nigeria (24238)
The purpose of using Nitrogen in the oil and gas industries is primarily to purge oil platforms and refineries to suppress flammability by reducing oxygen levels to a point below which combustion is possible.
Nitrogen gas is used in the drilling phase of the oil and gas industry mainly for purging and keeping instruments dry, effective, and efficient.
Explain C-acid, R-acid and H-acid
October 23, 2013
Please explain to me the prefixes; C, R, & H as they are used in C-acid, R-acid and H-acid respectively.
MUHAMMAD - Nigeria (24122)
C-acid, R-acid and H-acid don't seem to be standard Chemistry terms. They could refer to a number of different acids.
How can I easily understand material?
October 10, 2013
How can i easyly uderstandit and by the way i have my own wabsite
Mulex - Ethiopia (24088)
Writing down important concepts is a good way to learn.
Congratulations on your own website.
How is chemistry used to develop Nigeria?
September 29, 2013
explain how the knowledge of chemistry has contributed to the development of nigeria
hayormide - Nigeria (24062)
Application of knowledge of chemistry is important in developing new products and in industries using chemicals.
Nigeria has a large petroleum industry, which requires chemists and chemical engineers to maintain and improve the systems. Chemistry is also used in Nigeria's agriculture and in mineral resources. The textile industry also needs knowledge of chemistry
