Wants Queen Anne replacement part

June 20, 2015

Question

Recently I purchased a Queen Anne dutch oven at a yard sale. The knob on the lid is missing so I am trying to get a new one. Info on the pot says its stainless steel, 6 quart , made in USA, 3ply 188. The screw is still in the lid waiting for a knob handle. Do you have such an item? Or is it an antique? Is this a waterless pot and if so how is it used?
Do you have a Canadian address or an 800 number in Canada that I could phone?? Here is hoping you can help me. thanks Sandra Josephson

sandra - Canada (26103)

Answer

Queen Anne was purchased by West Bend Co. a number of years ago.

See West Bend Canada for a listing of Canadian Service Centers for assistance.

Best wishes on getting your replacement part.

Mesothelioma and cancer resource

May 14, 2015

Question

Hello,

By way of introduction, my name is Debbie Slaughter with Mesothelioma.net. We are working to bring more awareness to a rare cancer, Mesothelioma, and I feel that your organization could be a great help in doing this. I’m hoping that you would be willing to add our website to your site as well.

We would be grateful if you would share our resource on your website so that people suffering from Mesothelioma and their families can better understand this terrible affliction. Mesothelioma is often misdiagnosed since it shares the same symptoms as pneumonia and other common illnesses.

Can you or your webmaster add this snippet of code where you think it's appropriate?
[Mesothelioma Help http://mesothelioma.net/mesothelioma/]

We provide mesothelioma patients with free resources, support, education, and referrals to experienced mesothelioma doctors.

We are a current sponsor of the American Cancer Society, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Make a Wish Foundation and the National Patient Travel Center.

We’ve also established a scholarship for high school and college students that will help further educate students of this rare cancer.

Thanks so much for your consideration! Please send me an email back and let me know what you think. Have a great week!

Best,

Deborah - USA (25999)

Answer

I added a link to your organization's website on our Health Resources page. Best wishes in your work.

Vomiting

Why did I vomit?

May 6, 2015

Question

I don't know what made me vomit but I never ate the whole day and spent the whole day at school with empty stomach. but the next morning I vomited. I would really like to know what made me vomit.

Lehlogonolo - South Africa (25977)

Answer

It is often difficult to know what causes a person to vomit.

It is possible that when you ate your stomach reacted to eating after being empty all day. Or, you could have had some bad food that your body wanted to get rid of.

The most important thing is that you are well now.

Is Ebola a pandemic disease?

March 28, 2015

Question

HI SCHOOL OF CHAMPIONS MY NAME IS PRAYGOD AYUBU. I HAVE A QUESTION IS EBOLA PANDEMIC DISEASE.

PRAYGOD - Tanzania (25871)

Answer

A pandemic disease is an infectious disease that has spread through human populations across a large region, such as across multiple continents or even worldwide.

Ebola certainly has the potential of being a pandemic disease, but it seems to be getting under control. It certainly has not killed as many people as such pandemic diseases as smallpox.

Where are you getting your info? I read that 3 cat scans gave people equal radiation of people that were in a nuclear war. They did measurements of radiation in these peoples bodies

There is a reference list at the end of the article. Another good reference is Radiation Dose in X-Ray and CT Exams, which states that the risk from most CT or CAT scans is low.

Question

Good Afternoon,

I stumbled across school-for-champions.com , and thought the information provided on your website was very helpful and informative.

I think you will be interested in a resource that I have personally found extremely beneficial. The site mesotheliomahelp.org provides caregivers, patients, and others (including veterans, emergency personnel, firemen, mechanics, homeowners, etc) resources and tools to gain knowledge about a horrible type of lung cancer. Their main mission is to spread awareness for asbestos exposure, which leads to Mesothelioma. It is the only site to feature a live chat option (24/7), annual $10,000 scholarship, Q & A sessions, and much more.

If you would like more information about this site, please let me know. I think that it would be wonderful if you could link to www.mesotheliomahelp.org/asbestos/ and share it with your visitors? I think a great place would be

We really need your help to overcome this deadly disease!

I hope you have a great day.

Kindly,

Robert Padgett

Thanks ahead for your help,

Cindy - USA (25549)

Take a look at Waterless Cookware by Kitchen Craft, which used to make Seal-O-Matic. The site can give some basic information. Any waterless cookware recipe book can also give you guidance.

X-ray Risks

Concerned about scintigraphy test

November 5, 2014

Question

Dear Ron Kurtus!

I am writing to ask for your help regarding risk of radiation exposure via a whole body bone scintigraphy. I found your article at http://www.school-for-champions.com/health/x-ray_health_risks.htm very interesting and helpful, however unfortunately I wasn't able to find data on scintigraphy there.

I am a 38 yr old female and would like to have children possibly within 1-2 yrs. As you probably know it is getting more and more difficult to be able to bear a healthy child as we are ageing due to the declining quality of the eggs. You probably also know that unlike men we cannot produce new ones.

Hence my worry, as scintigraphy will require an isotope injection and then the whole body is to be scanned. I am not quite sure of further details on this technology.

I was warned by the professional who scheduled me for the exam that I cannot go near pregnant women and small children for 24 hrs after the exam, as that is the time it usually takes for the isotope to leave the body via the kidneys. I was also asked to bring 1.5L liquid for the appointment which I will need to drink quickly to help my body get rid of the radiating material.

I realise tat you are not a physician but seem to see the technical side of this matter and would be happy to have your advice, if possible within a very short time as my appointment is next Monday, 10 November 2014.

I have been trying to search the Internet for more info but so far your site has been the most informative on this matter - I would also be grateful if you could point me in a direction of where to get further information on my problem.

Please respect that I do not wish to see the specifics of my medical issue taken from this email and discussed without my specific permission on any platforms or media. Thank you.

Thank you in advance if you can find time for this question andare able to advise me.

Yours sincerely,
Alinas (I hope you understand that due to the personal details shared I wish to use 'Alinas' only as my name)

Alinas - Hungary (25504)

Answer

The amount of radioactive material inject in scintigraphy is small, although you still need to take precautions. One thing is that you should not become pregnant for at least a month after the test or until you've had another period. Once the isotope is out of your system, you should be relatively safe.

You get much more radiation from a CT scan or other types of x-rays.

Certainly, tell your doctor of your concerns to get reassurance on the issue.

Some websites on the subject, including risks are: Bone Scan and Renal Scintigraphy.

I hope that helps. Best wishes for continued good health.

Heart health resources

August 15, 2014

Question

Hi!

I’m writing to introduce EducatorLabs.org, a new volunteer-based startup that conducts free research for educators. We conduct research on all types of topics and for all different ages.

Currently, we’re collecting information on women’s health - in particular, heart health. If you have any resources you think would be useful to us, other than those listed on this page of your site:http://www.school-for-champions.com/health/resources.htm , we would love to see them! If not, no problem at all.

I’m passing along some resources that are related to this important topic. Please add them to your site if you agree that they’d be a good fit.

Let me know if you decide to post them - I will share the good news with the rest of the team!

Thank you for your time!

Rebecca - USA (25272)

Answer

Thanks for the suggested resources. I added them to the Health Resources page.
