Mini-Quiz: Overcome the Fear of Speaking to Groups

by Ron Kurtus (revised 22 December 2001)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. Why are most people afraid to speak to a group?

They fear the audience will get angry at them

They are afraid of looking foolish

It is an excuse for their incompetence

2. How can you gain confidence in your speaking ability?

Gather together a series of small speaking successes

Only speak before people you know

Have several alcoholic drinks before speaking

3. How can you reduce fear of your audience?

Visualize them as friendly toward you

Come in with a hostile attitude

Try not to look at them

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Public Speaking. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.

Take a deep breath and just do it
