by Ron Kurtus (6 December 2014)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. What is the first thing to do to solve the equation 4x2 + 6x + 8 = 0 by completing the square method?

Multiply by 8

Divide by 4

Take the square root

2. What is done when the equation is in the form of x2 + 6x = −8?

Multiply 6 by 2, square it, and add 122 to both sides of the equation

Divide 8 by 2, square it, and add 42 to both sides of the equation

Divide 6 by 2, square it, and add 32 to both sides of the equation

3. What is the next step in solving the equation x2 + 6x + 32 = −8 + 32?

Take the square root of both sides of the equal sign

Subtract 32 from both sides of the equal sign

No more steps are required

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Algebra. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
