Mini-Quiz: Preparing to Win a Competition

by Ron Kurtus (revised 15 June 2007)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. Why would being in good physical condition prepare you for a championship chess competition?

Chess pieces are extremely heavy and you need strength to move them

You may need physical and mental stamina for long games

It has nothing to do with chess

2. How can you prepare to compete against an unknown opponent?

Never compete against someone you don't know

Assume he is incompetent, so you don't have to prepare very much

Prepare a strategy of playing to your strengths

3. What are important elements in establishing a winning frame of mind?

Motivation and confidence

Physical and mental conditioning

Whether you like or dislike the opponent

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Winning Competitions. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
