Mini-Quiz: Efficiency of Machines

by Ron Kurtus (revised 24 June 2016)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. How could you make pushing an object up a ramp more efficient?

By reducing the friction with rollers or lubricants

You can't increase the efficiency due to the Conservation Law

By using two people to push the object

2. If 50% of the input energy is lost to friction, what is the efficiency of the machine?

3. Can a machine be 100% efficient?

Yes, if it is powered by nuclear energy

It depends on the size of the machine

No, because of losses due to friction, heat and other factors

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Understanding Machines. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
