Mini-Quiz: Alternating Current (AC) Home Wiring

by Ron Kurtus (revised 3 February 2017)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. If it is not considered "hot", why should you be careful touching the white wire?

Someone may have wired the house incorrectly, making the wire "hot"

You only have to worry if you are in the bathtub

It might start a fire

2. What could happen if you used a hot water pipe as a ground?

The hot water would become electrified

The water heater may prevent it from being a true ground

Electrical devices may overheat

3. What is the purpose of a circuit breaker?

To avoid having to use pennies to stop the aggravation

To disconnect the circuit if a dangerous amount of current is going through the wires

To correctly ground the wiring and provide a terminal location

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Physics. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.

Be curious about things you may take for granted
