Mini-Quiz: Electrostatic Induction

by Ron Kurtus (updated 30 May 2023)

Take this Mini-Quiz to check your understanding of the lesson material.

1. What allows electrical charges to be redistributed in a conductor?

Conductors often have free electrons and positive and negative ions

Static electricity is so strong that it rips the charges apart

Negative charges are heavier, so they often sink to the bottom

2. What does temporarily grounding a charged conductor do?

It prevents getting electrical shocks

It draws off one charge and leave the opposite charged particles in place

You should always permanently ground conductors

3. How does a charged object attract a neutral nonconductor?

You cannot attract an electrically neutral object

Free electrons in the nonconductor flow toward the charged object

Nonconductor molecules become aligned to attract the opposite charge

If you got all three correct, you are on your way to becoming a Champion in Physics. If you had problems, you had better look over the material again.
