Why isn't Obama's speech included?

Topic: General

Why have you left out President Barack Obama from your list of inaugural speech?

Does it smell of revisionist history to you? It does with me.

I love President Obama because he and Democrats enacted and implemented the STIMULUS ACT which DEFINITELY helped to rescue the economy from the GREAT RECESSION from falling into a GREAT DEPRESSION.

I love President Obama because he and Democrats' economic policies assisted private employers stop 800,000 Americans from losing their jobs every month to the creation of 14.6 million jobs over 74 straight months of job growth. This is the best record of continuous job growth of any previous U.S. president.

I love President Obama because he took a daring and courageous decision at the start of his presidency; against fierce opposition from REPUBLICANS to BAIL OUT GM and Chrysler. If he had not done so today the Mid-West would have been an industrial waste land with ghost towns. Today, GM and Chrysler are producing more vehicles than ever before.

The production of CARS, TRUCKS and VANS is what began the AMERICAN MIDDLE CLASS and made AMERICA GREAT!

I love President Obama because he and Democrats have provided over 20 million Americans with affordable healthcare insurance. Americans are living longer but are sicker, too.

I love OBAMACARE; because President Obama CARES for the sick, poor, children and the middle class.

I love President Obama because he is a loving husband and daddy.

Ask Michelle, Malia, Sasha, Mrs Robinson and Bo if that's not true.

Thank you for your comments and opinions about President Barack Obama. I have planned to include his inaugural address, as well as those from various past Presidents, but have not yet done that. However, Barack Obama's Address before the 2004 Democratic Convention had been included among the other speeches.

Mistake in speech text

Topic: Churchill Never Give In

June 1, 2015

In the closing remarks of Winston Churchill's speech you have a sentence with four consecutive NEVERs. I believe the correct quote only used three, “Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never—in nothing, great or small, large or petty—never give in, except to convictions of honour and good sense."

Richard - USA

Thanks for pointing out that error. I corrected the text.

Tips for graduation speech

Topic: General

November 17, 2013

I need to deliver a speech on my graduation day, which is on 22nd November, I would be grateful if you give me some tips,
I need to emphasize that I had many financial issues so that my institute gave me a scholarship, and I have gained 3.7 GPA out of 4

Damith - Sri Lanka

You can start your speech with something like: "Fellow students and instructors. I am sure everyone is happy to be graduating. I am especially grateful for the financial help I received so that I was able to attend this great school."

Then you can go on to tell your story and perhaps things about other students needing financial assistance. You might include something humorous the other student would enjoy.

Keep your speech short. 5 to 10 minutes is the best.

After your opening, have three points, stories, or examples. Then try to conclude with a quote related to the school or to encourage success for the other students.

Above all, practice your speech in front of friend or family several times.

Best wishes with your speech and congratulations on graduating.

Use the correct British spelling

Topic: Churchill Never Give In

July 13, 2012

You print the text of Churchill's speech but not correct. If you are publishing any Englishman's speeches then try to actually use correct English. For example, Churchill would not have written "honor" in place of "honour"

I do understand this site is probably a US-based affair and, by all means, publish great and inspiring things but do so correctly.

I would also offer the suggestion that anything of Gandhi's would also have English spelling and not American. British prime ministers, abdicating British monarch's, etc. all these would be using the Queen's English.

Thank you.

Marc - UK

You bring up a very good point. Certainly, the text of a speech from an Englishman or someone from a country related to the UK should use the spelling from that nation.

I'll be correcting Churchill's speeches, as well as text from present and past British subjects.

Thank you for your input.

Wants high resolution picture of Martin Luther King

Topic: Martin Luther King Dream

August 18, 2011

Hello! My name is Melanie Eversley and I am a reporter with USA Today. I am working on a package of stories related to the dedication of the Martin Luther King memorial in Washington, D.C., and I have been working on a project where I'm identifying people who stood near King during the "I Have a Dream" speech. I was intrigued by the photo you have on your page devoted to Martin Luther King because I believe it shows someone I was trying to track down. I was wondering if you tell me where you got that photo because the photo editor here says we might be able to get a higher resolution version for our needs.

Thanks so much!

Melanie - USA

The photo is on a number of sites dedicated to King. However, the photo credit on the picture is UPI/Corbis-Bettmann. That would be the best source to get a high resolution version.

Best wishes in your articles.

Analyze Obama's speech

Topic: Obama 2004 Convention

June 12, 2011

Analyze Obama's introduction. That is, identify its parts and explain their rhetorical effects.

Analyze Obama's use of narratives and anecdotes. In other words, identify them, and explain the purposes to which they are put and the effects they achieve.

Analyze Obama's conclusion. That is, identify its parts and explain their rhetorical effects

sandra - Canada

The idea of your class assignment is that you should read the speech and draw your own conclusions as to the parts of the introduction, the use of anecdotes and such. Having someone else do it for you does not help you learn.
