TQM in U.S. Air Force Systems Command (AFSC)
by Ron Kurtus
The United States Air Force Systems Command (AFSC) organization implemented Total Quality Management (TQM) in 1989 in response to a directive from the Department of Defense (DoD) to improve quality and reduce costs.
A presentation was made to Air Force personnel, outlining the AFSC's concepts on implementing TQM. Although done years ago, the presentation still provides a good outline for implementing TQM in your organization.
Questions you may have include:
- What is the AFSC's definition of TQM?
- Why did they want to implement TQM?
- What outcomes did they seek?
This lesson will answer those questions.
